The Tagant Plateau lies in eastern Mauritania, forming a stony part of the Sahara Desert. Some towns such as Tichit, Moudjéria and Rachid, lie at the foot of its slopes – cliffs in some places – while Tidjikdja lies on the Tagant itself. The plateau is also known for its desert crocodiles but the population seems to have been last seen in 1996.[1]
The Tagant region is named for the plateau.
